A lot to catch up on. I'm setting up a new blog but until that is up & running I wanted to document whats been happening in the past few weeks. The feature film idea now has a working title of ' The Definition Of Me'. The organisers of Manchester Pride gave us our first Q & A session on their blog. James and I are hoping to to raise awareness of the film idea and maybe, just maybe someone will chuck a load of money our way! Diva magazine have featured me in the September issue, out this morning. Readers are beginning to contact me via twitter saying they really want to watch more films aimed at lesbians. The audience for TDOM is so out there!

Counting Down The Days

Team submissions forms were handed in last Friday and we will know within 72 hours if we've made it into the top 10 or 12 on the Regional Screen Agency mentoring scheme. We were pleased with our application but we found it rather difficult cutting down the synopsis from 380 to 140 words. So much information for one page! Friday's announcement will be huge for us as we really want the continuing support of the three RSA's. If we don't get through we are well and truly on our own.

Hebden Bridge

I'm beginning to love living in Hebden Bridge. I'm trying to discover how the town attracted lesbians initially, before the town became the self-proclaimed lesbian capital of Britain. Does anyone have any info on this? I was interviewed, along with my ex about three years ago for a Canadian radio station and we were asked why we moved here - to live in a place where we weren't the only lesbians with children, a standard response. But how did it all start?

Time to discover the gay history of Hebden.

I've signed up for the Distribution In Reverse Bootcamp at Film Specific. I'm really excited about this -  I came across Stacey Parks via following Thomas Mai and I'm really looking forward to the sessions. I'm obviously hoping to use the Distribution in Reverse  principles within 'Untitled'.

James and I need to complete the next submissions form for Triangle, detailing teams and submitting a proposal for assessment. This will determine which teams continue to the next stage. We have a mentoring session via Skype next week, I'm hoping to go through the application, then hold my breath and submit.

We've come up with a few working titles for the film. I'll go into more detail here at the weekend.

Oh and (is it ok to ask this?)  if you read this it would be great if you could hit that 'like' button please. The more of those we get in the coming months the more I can prove there is an audience for this gay themed film. I realise I haven't gone into great detail regarding the premise of the film just yet, but I'll start soon I promise!. To be honest, it's difficult to assess what I should give away about the script at this stage.

Leeds, Feb 17th

A day of seminars - I felt particularly inspired by Alex Usborne of Picture Palace Films . James and I skipped the screening towards the end of the day so we could talk - it was the last time we would be in each others company before the team submissions deadline. Our belief in the film we intend to make is stronger than ever and we felt honoured that Triangle members were rooting for us, impressed by our passion for the script idea.

James headed back to Newcastle and I headed to the bar. I hadn't planned on drinking too much, talking Transmedia in the hotel bar with a bunch of Goths who had been to a Sisters Of Mercy gig or crashing in a friend's hotel room for the night. Well not for the first time and I'm sure it will not be the last.

Paperwork time. The March 4th deadline approaches.

The Next Step

The writer I wanted to come onboard 'Untitled' has decided to push for his own project on Triangle, which I completely understand. So now its time to read the scripts I have been sent from various writers on the scheme. James and I are happy to go ahead with the project together but agree that another pair of eyes and mind can only be a benefit to the script and to us.

Yesterday I set foot on the long and winding road of film finance. I contacted a former colleague who now works for an investment company. Well there's no harm in trying and if you don't ask you don't get!

The next session for the Triangle group takes place on Thursday in Leeds - for me, this will be a day of seminars concerned with low budget filmmaking. I'm becoming obsessed by film finance...and I would'nt have it any other way.

Until Thursday.

Welcome. This blog has been set up to follow the dream of one wanna-be film producer. The story so far....my Civil Partnership went down the Swanee ... I started writing a script inspired by those traumatic times. I finished the first draft in September 2010. The structure of the script needs developing (massively!) and there's possibly too much going on. However, I believe in the story.

In January 2011, I was accepted onto a Regional Screen Agency mentoring initiative as a film producer. Massive boost to a woman who suffers from a complete lack of confidence in her ability! The first session of the mentoring programme took place last week at MediaCityUK. The scheme is called 'Triangle' and we are encouraged to form creative Producer/Director/Writer teams. Aside from mentoring sessions we liaise through a Linkedin group. I posted a message early last week to see if there was anyone interested in working on a gay themed film. I had one response from a Director. Phew, at least there was someone. James was now top of my list to meet at MediaCityUK.

The day consisted of 'speed dating'. Each Producer was sat down in the middle of a room and Writers and Directors were given 3 minutes with the Producer. Bring on the coffee. It was exhilarating and exhausting.

Late afternoon was spent listening to Producers/Founders of Vertigo Films and Writer/Director Gareth Davies in a Masterclass.

We then hit The Lime Bar for networking drinks. No-one was in a rush as there were major delays on the motorway heading out of Manchester. Time to chat. After the second drink, Director James agreed to come on board *Untitled* Gay Movie. I was thrilled. We hugged. James headed home to Newcastle but his car broke down on the motorway. I hope thats not some sort of omen!

Now to get the Writer on board - someone who will be open to collaboration with a Writer/Producer and Creative Director. I have someone in mind. Fingers crossed.
